The Illegitimate President Who Broke America

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

Most of you are too young to remember my America: the country I loved and deserved my loyalty, respect, and trust. Sadly, that nation no longer exists, and I’m not sure if it will ever regain its position on the world’s stage.

Humans are by far the weakest of all mammals. For the most part we are never happy with our personal situation. We want more, more, and more. We are also a lazy group. We look for someone else to do our work for us.

John Adams: "Remember Democracy never lasts long". He further asserted that democracy "soon wastes exhausts and murders itself," and that "There never was a Democracy Yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Abraham Lincoln: "if destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide"

Abraham Lincoln: “We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.”

These great men were not only brilliant, they had an unparalleled understanding of the weakness of all people.

Preparation for the end of democracy in America began 44 years ago. Republican “God,” Ronald Reagan, altered politics and with it our form of governance. He demanded absolute loyalty from his party. Dissent was forbidden. With this the precepts of a Democratic Republic no longer existed: honest deliberation and eventual compromise. is

Reagan is also responsible for the right-wing’s undeclared war on the working class, placing the demands of the super-rich ahead of the majority. He is responsible for devaluing the rights of women and minorities, and the creation of the powerful lobby, the “Christian Religious Right.” Not a single “Republican” makes a decision today without discussing the matter with leaders of the Evangelical Caucus.

Both George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush followed Reagan’s lead and implemented his failed fiscal policy of “trickle-down economics.”

In 2015 a failed businessman, a con artist extraordinaire, declared his intention to win the highest office in our nation. He was by far the least qualified man to ever seek the office of President of the United States of America.

However, his one talent, lying constantly and frequently until those lies were accepted as “alternative facts,” gave him victories in the primaries. Trump offers weak-minded men and women promises he never intends to keep. He combines this natural ‘talent’ with his ability to brainwash the uninformed with vile emotions of anger, and hatred, while inciting them to take violent actions in his name, making him popular among certain groups, including the American Neo-Nazi movement.

For the most part, his Republican predecessors supported a nation composed of acceptance, understanding, and compassion for others. However, Trump ignores those values, replacing them with his own philosophies and beliefs. He blames others for his mistakes, declaring them his personal enemies and encouraging hatred, distrust, and efforts intent on revenge.

Trump placed his desire for power and great wealth in priority number one, discounting the majority of our nation’s people, including his ardent supporters, although in private he refers to them as “basement dwellers.”

From the day Trump won the Republican presidential nomination in July of 2016 hate crimes in America rose by 800 percent. Domestic Terrorism became the greatest danger to human life in America as gun violence escalated. Beginning in 2017, the number of mass shootings each year surpassed the number of days on the calendar.

In 2025, injury and death from gunshots continue. However deep hatred, inspired by Trump’s words and actions, includes increasing violent actions by his supporters. Attacks with knives, clubs, and even vehicles are commonplace. The United States of America is the most violent and dangerous nation in the 21st century.

America is broken beyond repair unless drastic changes begins now. The government of the United States is dysfunctional and the most corrupt in the free and developed world.

Every man and woman taking up space on the right side of the aisle is loyal to Trump, not to the people of our nation. In four years, six months, and seven days, pretending to be your president, Trump has failed to accomplish one thing of a positive nature for our country. His only “success” has been giving additional tax breaks to his 813 oligarchs.

If America becomes nothing but a memory, it is our fault. As one nation’s people we are uninformed and too lazy to make an effort to know the truth about the men and women who ask for our votes. Although Trump’s victories in 2016 and 2024 were undeniably rigged, if we, the people, had supported Kamala Harris as we did Biden in 2020, Putin would have lost and we would have won.

Face the truth, know the facts, and fight like hell to save the dream.
