The Real Democratic Party Died in 1945
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
I have written many stories about the Republican Party
taking its final breath on January 20, 2017. Although this is a fact, it’s not
surprising. For more than 15 years, when the TEA Party was allowed to invade
the former Grand Old Party, all right-wing politicians began moving farther to
the right. Today, they have become fascists.
However, what I never told you in so many words, is that the
Democratic Party no longer exists, and hasn’t for the last 80 years.
In 1932, the greatest President of the United States in history was elected for the first time. Over the next 13 years, Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s policies were focused on the working man and woman; the majority. Although he was reluctant to enter into the second World War, he prepared our nation for the possibility. When we were attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941, we were ready to help our allies defeat the evil forces of fascism.
There has never been a president like FDR and I doubt there
ever will be.
Those who call themselves “Democrats” today often sound like
FDR, but in reality, they are cowards. They fear progressive ideas, ideas which
were priorities for President Roosevelt. Winning elections are more important
than always doing the right thing by serving the needs and wishes of our nation’s
people.
The Democratic Mayoral Primary was held on June 24, 2025. A
progressive member of the Democratic state legislature, who supports Bernie
Sanders beliefs, including Democratic Socialism, defeated all other candidates,
including the status quo candidate, Andrew Cuomo. The results created fear
within today’s Democratic Party among those who are considered moderates, or,
as I call them, “cowards who choose to do nothing.” The winner’s name is Zohran
Mamdani, a Muslim.
Republicans and some Democrats describe Mr. Mamdani as a
radical. Trump’s fascist army went a step further and called him a “radical
leftist.” None of this is based on fact.
Fear mongers are claiming that many New Yorkers who are
billionaires will leave New York if he raises taxes, as he promised. Untrue.
They have so much money that a small increase in taxes will go unnoticed. They
choose the New York lifestyle, and escape the winters in mansions located in
more desirable climates.
When voters were questioned about their support for Mamdani,
they were virtually unanimous in their praise for his plans to reduce the cost
of living for all New Yorkers, primarily the outlandish cost of housing.
After the 2024 rigged election, a number of professional “Politicos”
criticized Kamala Harris for her progressive agenda, claiming that the people
or our nation are more ‘conservative.’ Once again untrue.
Another look at FDR reveals two undeniable facts. He was the
most liberal president in history, and he was unbeatable. Republicans were
angry. Not one of their party’s candidates was a major threat in the 1932, 1936,
1940, and 1944 elections. This is the reason for the passage of the 22nd
Amendment establishing presidential term limits.
Finally, a personal note. I do not know if she is
considering an attempt to win the Democratic nomination in 2028, but Alexandria,
Ocasio-Cortez is my choice. Our country would have its first truly American
President in my 79 years.
