I Try to Avoid Profanity, but Today’s Rant Includes the Most Disgusting Words in the English Language: Politics and Politicians
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
In 1951, I was five years old. My family was still living in
the city of my birth, Lewiston, Idaho. I enjoyed family gatherings which
usually took place and my Uncle Bernard’s home. They were always large events,
my maternal grandparents had 12 children. Two died very young, and my Uncle Leonard
lost his life fighting to defeat fascism in WWII. However, three of my uncles
survived.
Those days were noisy, filled with the laughter of children
and the conversations taking place among my mother’s family.
The men often discussed politics. America was moving away
from a wartime economy. Women who replaced men in the workplace, who left to
fight the war, were returning to their homes. The thing I remember most was my
grandfather’s and uncle’s distaste for politicians. Of course, I didn’t understand
everything then, but I share their feelings and despise them even more today.
1960 turned out to be one of the most important years in my
life. I would be attending my freshman year in high school. Young men and women
my age were excited about the upcoming election. This was a little unusual for
14-year-olds, but we had a reason to care about the outcome.
The Democrats had nominated a Senator from Massachusetts,
John Fitzgerald Kennedy. He was just 43 years old, and spoke to us. His
intelligence and incomparable wit had me glued to the television screen when he
spoke. I was fascinated by the debates between Senator Kennedy and his
opponent, Richard M. Nixon. They were the first nationally televised presidential
debates in history.
JFK’s assassination on November 22, 1963, broke my heart and
the hearts of millions of other Americans.
I turned 21 in 1967. I would be able to vote for the first
time in 1968. When Robert Kennedy announced his intention to win the Democratic
Party’s presidential nomination, I knew the man who would receive my vote.
However, on June 6, 1968 Robert Kennedy was murdered in Los Angeles. I was sad,
and also unsure who would receive my first ever vote in November.
I tell this long story because everything which happens in
our lives affects the path we choose. I no longer had any idea about whose name
would receive my mark on the ballot in November.
This story is not about my choices in 1968; it is about the
most important and intelligent choice I made in my first 22 years. I decided
that I would be an Independent voter. I believed that political parties were the
enemies of democracy. I feel even stronger about that decision today. I
believed that their were good and bad choices from both parties. My votes were
distributed between both Democrats and Republicans. This continued throughout
every election until 2000. That is a story for another time.
It is a fact that most American voters choose the men and
women who will receive their votes from what they see and hear on television.
There is a reason its nickname is the “boob tube.” Voting for a party, not the
candidate who shares your views and would place your interests first, is
moronic. This is why, in 2025, the government of the United States is the most
incompetent and corrupt in the world. If the men and women we elect fail us, we
must blame ourselves. We, the voting public, failed to make informed and
intelligent decisions.
I offer you the story of one old man who I rate the worst
Senator in American history. Moscow Mitch McConnell was born on January 20,
1942. Moscow Mitch began his life as a United States Senator from Kentucky in
1985. He is now in his seventh term and is the poster boy for congressional
term limits.
As Senate Majority Leader, most of his crimes against the
American people were committed behind closed doors. However, he was unable to
hide everything.
In January, 2009, he stood before the television cameras and
promised that ‘his party would do nothing with the exception of focusing their
efforts on ensuring that Barack Obama would be a one-term president.’ At that
moment, he created the “party of no” and all right-wing politicians became
obstructionists. His statement also revealed his lifelong support for racism. The
views and policies of the men and women who sit on the right side of the aisle
today have become far more extreme and present an even greater danger to our
nation’s future.
Moscow Mitch was not afraid of revealing an extrem display
of hypocrisy. Throughout the 2016 campaign season, he led the “anybody but
Trump movement,” constantly offering valid criticism about the failed
businessman. After the election he bowed to Trump’s every demand and joined his
party in support of Trump’s unconstitutional agenda.
When Trump was impeached twice, it was Moscow Mitch who
refused to conduct a fair trial in the Senate, allowing the worst illegitimate
president in history to remain in office.
However, his most egregious crime against the American people
will last for decades, and is the reason America has become a fascist regime,
with Trump as its Fuhrer.
When the most extreme ‘conservative’ Supreme Court justice
in history, Antonin Scalia, died suddenly in February of 2016, President Obama
performed his Constitutional duty and nominated Merrick Garland to replace Scalia
on the Court. However, Moscow Mitch created a rule which defied the intent of
the Constitution, and refused to hold confirmation hearings in the Senate,
claiming that a seat on the Court should not be filled during an election year.
This allowed Moscow Mitch to convince Trump to nominate
another right-wing extremist to the Court in 2017, Neil Gorsuch.
After Justice Kennedy announced his retirement from the
Court, Trump and Moscow Mitch nominated another unqualified man for the Court
in July of 2018. Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings were a travesty. The FBI
failed to perform its duty to fully vet Kavanaugh, and many of his failings
were never revealed. However, he was charged with the crime of sexual assault
by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford when they were both in college. The male-dominated
Senate allowed Kavanaugh to become a justice by a very small majority in the
Senate. For me, this was a repeat of the travesty involving Clarence Thomas in
1991.
In 2020, the legendary Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg lost her
battle with cancer in September. In October, Moscow Mitch, eager to stack the
Court with a super majority, broke his own rule and convinced Trump to nominate
Amy Coney Barrett in October, just one month prior to the election. He rushed
her confirmation through the Senate and his dream had become a reality. The Court
was stacked by a majority of 6-3.
The rest is part of America’s dark history. On June 22, 2024,
a corrupted Supreme Court overturned a previous Court decision 49 years in the
past, and with it the rights of all women to make decisions about their own
physical and mental health by overturning Roe v Wade. Another crime against the
rights of all women in America had occurred with the influence and support of
the Christian Religious Right.
However, these six traitor’s most devasting crime was
ignoring section three of the 14th amendment. They allowed the man
who organized, planned, and executed an attempted coup on January 6, 2021 to seek
the presidency in 2024. America now has a traitor defiling our White House.
Most of our nation’s presidents have done more harm than
good for the American people. However, in his 39 years as a United States
Senator, Moscow Mitch has done more harm to our nation than all 47 presidents
combined. But don’t give up just yet. In 2025 Trump is working hard to become
the most destructive force in our nation’s history. He is carefully following
the right-wing fascist manifesto known as Project 2025.
The people of Kentucky are guilty of crimes against America.
They elected Moscow Mitch seven times for one reason; he had an “R” next to his
name on the ballot.
