Republicans are Hypocrites and Both Parties Are Cowards

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

Real heroes are rare. Some Americans look to celebrities and call them heroes. Accomplished athletes are frequently referred to as role models or heroes. I guess I have a different thought process. Only a handful of individuals in my lifetime are worthy of such extreme adulation.

A number of historical figures who lived before me were undoubtedly worthy of the title. However, since I was born in 1946, there are only a few who I believe accomplished something of such great importance that truly can be considered worthy of the ultimate form of recognition.

One of my heroes should be of no surprise to anyone. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of principle, morals, and always true to his personal beliefs. His peaceful protests were instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. His words were not only inspirational, they are as relative and important today as they were in the 1960’s. He gave his life fighting for what he believed in: nothing can be more impressive than what he accomplished for his fellow man.

In the early 1950’s my family toured a facility for children afflicted with polio. The first child I saw in an iron lung brought tears to my young face. A couple of years later a doctor specializing in immunotherapy developed a vaccine which would eventually eradicate polio. We stood in lines during school hours to take our turn to receive the vaccine. I love science, and Dr. Jonas Salk was one of my heroes.

The only other person who received my hero worship was a politician: John Fitzgerald Kennedy. His influence on younger Americans was enormous. I was in my first year of high school in 1960 when JFK won the presidency. To this day, his words inspire me. He brought back a wave of patriotism across America. His courage and determination to do the right thing for his country impressed me then and continues to place him above all modern presidents. Sadly, in my senior year he was murdered by a lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald: at least that’s what our government continues to tell us.

Although there are a few Democratic politicians who impress me today, I find no heroes in either party.

The Republican Party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Dwight Eisenhower no longer exists. In its place are men and women whose loyalty belongs to fascist Donald Trump, not to their country or 340 million people who compose our nation. They are hypocrites who lie and promise their supporters one thing during election years, and do the opposite when elected.

Democrats, with the exception of Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, and Cory Booker, are cowards, afraid of offering the American people the facts, the truth about what is happening in Washington today. The American people are under attack from Trump and his Nazi army.

“Republicans” are also cowards. In private, they offer their true opinions about the malignant narcissist defiling our White House, but lack the courage to stand up for our nation’s future.

The system of governance, created by our Founding Fathers, no longer exists. Without honest deliberation and compromise, a Democratic Republic cannot function. What exists today, under the dictatorship of Putin’s puppet is a fascist regime. The Constitution has been put through a shredder and the dream is dead.

We, you, are to blame. They could not have won elections without our votes.

May the U.S. of A. rest in peace
