Republicans Are Not Members of the Working Class
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Republicans don’t understand the word “work.” Back in 1981,
Reagan began the right-wing policy of spending less time working, and more time
for personal reasons.
Ronald Reagan turned 70 years of age just two weeks after
his inauguration in 1981. He was clearly incapable of maintaining a work
schedule required of a man responsible for more than 300 million people. He
took lengthy afternoon naps to “recharge his batteries.”
George W. Bush took naps, but he was more famous for his
long vacations at his ranch in Crawford, Texas. After his inauguration on January
20, 2001, he left for a “much needed” vacation.
A committee focused on information acquired by various
national security agencies, came to a decision on January 26, 2001. They made a
suggestion to the new president which included a serious consideration related
to future terrorist attacks and the creation of the Department of Homeland
Security. It would oversee the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the
Border Patrol, and the Customs Service.
[Five days later a commission headed by Gary Hart and Warren
Rudman released a detailed report on the urgent steps necessary to begin the
process of protecting the United States against a terrorist attack. “States,
terrorists, and other disaffected groups will acquire weapons of mass
destruction, and some will use them,” the report warned. “Americans will likely
die on American soil, possibly in large numbers.” Hart even presciently
predicted that the country was vulnerable to “a weapon of mass destruction in a
high-rise building.”]
Bush and his vice president, Dick Cheney, ignored the
conclusion and advice of the panel. They were enjoying their vacations. A
little over seven months later, on September 11, 2001, there were three
horrific terrorist attacks on American soil, including the destruction of the
World Trade Center towers.
Now for your current old, obese, and mentally challenged
illegitimate president.
Between 2017 and 2021, Trump’s posted work schedule was between
11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when he was in Washington. Most of those few hours were
spent watching Fox News.
The majority of his presidency was spent on a golf course,
at one of his resorts, partying at Mar-a-Lago, and holding his infamous hate
rallies; all at taxpayer expense.
Since his January 20 inauguration in 2025, Trump traveled to
and from Mar-a-Lago nearly every weekend. He played more than 40 rounds of
golf, and spent more than 10 million taxpayer dollars on a single golf
excursion to Scotland, which he claimed was a “business trip.”
This is the “Republican way of governing.”
In contrast, both Barack Obama and Joe Biden averaged
between 12 and 14 hours each day working for all Americans.
