Trump and Netanyahu Have Many Things in Common
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Trump was born on June 15, 1946. Benjamin Netanyahu came
into this world on October 21, 1949. They are both old, white men who live in
the past. However, these are only two of the personal traits they share.
Both men claim to love their countries. Both are liars. They
love what their countries can do for them. Both men talk about the law, but
have no respect for their Supreme Courts, or the laws agreed to by the World
Court, protecting human rights and preventing atrocities, including ethnic
cleansing and genocide.
At this very moment, Trump is engaged in ethnic cleansing.
Netanyahu has murdered tens of thousands of innocent Palestinian men, women,
and children in Gaza, in what can only be called ‘genocide.’
Not only do both old men choose to force their people to
live in the past, where hatred, racism, and bigotry were commonplace, they have
chosen to become dictators, renouncing their elections as democratic leaders.
I feel it necessary to make some things completely clear. I
love the nation of Israel and the Israeli people. I admire their
accomplishments, courage, and patriotism. However, I despise their current
leader as much as I abhor the thought of living another day in Trump’s America.
I also have strong feelings for the Palestinian people. Israel
was granted Statehood by the United Nations in 1948. From the day Israel
received status and recognition as a nation, the people of Palestine asked for
the same rights. Time after time, one member of the Security Council, each with
the right to veto any petition without reason, blocked their request. That
country is the United States of America.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu continues the process of “land
grabbing.” The Palestinian people do not have a home of their own.
Although I support Israel’s retaliation for the vicious
attacks on Israelis attending a music festival on October 7, 2023 by the
terrorist group, Hamas, what followed is criminal and inexcusable.
The continuing attacks on Gaza have now killed more than
60,000 Palestinians. 90 percent of all Palestinians have been displaced. Of
those who remain, dozens are dying from starvation, including children.
Today, Netanyahu is planning to occupy the Gaza Strip. Trump
is planning to turn the area into a luxury resort, similar to his atrocious
millionaire’s playpen in Palm Beach.
Finally, an observation. In my 79 years there have been many
leaders of many nations. As I read the newspapers in my younger years, and news
on the internet today, I realize that very few of the men and women who led or
lead the people of this “big, blue marble” have been more than adequate. It is
far too common that power corrupts and their personal interests become of
greater importance than the people who chose them to lead their nations.
Unfortunately for the American people, and the citizens of
Israel, our nations have leaders who belong in the latter category.
We all deserve better, but are cursed with the worst.
