The 25 Years That Altered My Life and My Beliefs: May America R.I.P.
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
I had always been a mostly positive person. I believed that
most people had good intentions, and because of that single fact, the things I
saw happening around me, which were harmful, dangerous, and unfair would be
rectified in my lifetime.
However, 25 years ago, I began to doubt my own beliefs.
I was always aware that the government of the United States
was composed of mostly inferior and incompetent men and women. However, I
continued to believe that the system of checks and balances created by our
Founding Fathers would guarantee that our government would always be relatively
successful in the performance of their jobs: to serve the American people.
But after the 2000 election and the debacle occurring in
Florida by a totally incompetent election committee, the Supreme Court exceeded
its authority and decided to award George W. Bush the presidency.
I knew this was wrong, but I didn’t understand the
ramifications of that one decision and how the future corruption of the
judicial branch would eventually be responsible for the end of democracy in
America.
George W. Bush was the worst president in history. He failed
in every area of his job, was partly responsible for 9/11, and lied when he
took the oath of office on January 20, 2001. His fiscal policy, the same used
by his father and Reagan, combined with the high cost of engaging our nation in
two unwinnable wars, placed America in the Great Recession, while dividing our
nation’s people and alienating nations which had previously been friendly to
the United States. However, I didn’t know then that the worst was yet to come.
President Obama was a good president. He saved our nation
from financial disaster, and attempted to move America forward into the 21st
century. However, he lacked the courage to expose the changes in the once Grand
Old Party; changes which moved them so far to the right that their party was
becoming consumed with fascist ideals, and the fact that Moscow Mitch McConnell
was the most corrupt Senator in history. The Bush administration passed the unconstitutional
Patriot Act, and both parties refused to repeal it. Most of our rights
guaranteed by the Fourth, Fifth, and 14th Amendments had been
revoked, but no one seemed to care. The Obama administration never attempted any
action which would have repealed a law which clearly violated and violates the
Constitution today.
Domestic terrorism, and the increase of danger from gun
violence were growing rapidly, but both parties bowed, and continue to bow, to
the NRA gun lobby.
My biggest disappointment came after the 2016 election when
I learned that in October a meeting was held in the Oval Office, requested by all
12 of our nation’s security agencies. The purpose was to confirm that Vladimir
Putin was seriously interfering in the coming election in support of Donald Trump.
The leaders of both parties agreed not to inform voters prior to Election Day.
We all know what a huge mistake that was. Trump’s future was guaranteed by
politicians, the most hideous profession in the world.
On January 20, 2017, as Trump was sworn in as your president,
all my beliefs, all my faith in our government, and anyone with power over me,
began to fade rapidly. The least qualified and most immoral man in America would
be defiling our White House for four, very long, years.
After the 2020 election, it appeared that Trump would be
nothing but a bad memory. However, Moscow Mitch stacked the Supreme Court and
made it another corrupt member of right-wing politicians.
Trump was allowed to run for the presidency in 2024,
although the 14th Amendment prevented him from running for any
office. The second most unconstitutional action by a biased and criminal Court.
Once again, although our government knew the truth, Trump
won a rigged election on November 5, 2024. Today he is destroying our country,
and both political parties, as well as the Pentagon, are allowing him to take a
big, smelly shit on the Constitution.
You can easily understand why I reject anyone with power
over me: they are the enemy, along with 902 oligarchs.
I will not live long enough to see if America survives the
massive corruption in Washington in the 21st century. To tell the
truth, I really don’t care.
Any American voter who cast their ballot for Trump in any of
his three elections are traitors to the dream of the United States of America,
originated by our Founding Fathers.
I hope I see every Trump supporter in hell, where I will
probably be as well, if there is life after death. I sincerely doubt it.
