“What’s the Worst that Could Happen?” I Could Write a Book

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

Exit polls taken in swing states on November 5, 2024, revealed how uninformed the average American voter truly is. When asked why they voted for Trump, the reply was always similar to, “I think he’ll be better for the economy.” They were obviously unaware that Trump’s failure to lead our nation in the fight against a deadly coronavirus, combined with his failed fiscal policy, nearly created a second Great Depression in 2020, and added eight trillion dollars to the national debt. “What their responses said to me was, “how bad can he be?” Those same voters are suffering from how bad the orange buffoon has become.

All politicians make promises. During the 2016 campaign, Trump made promises about a wall, which would have failed, and how great the economy would be if he was elected: and many, many more. He kept none of these promises. During the 2024 campaign, his biggest promises were to end the war in Ukraine on day one, as well as the current “Greedflation.” As of this day, October 16. 2025, he has failed to address a single promise. In fact, he has done nothing for the working class to improve our lives. Quite the opposite, he is removing necessary services for those who need them the most, primarily in red states.

Trump has become “president destructo.”

The worst illegitimate president in history is destroying the very fabric of our nation, piece by piece. His fascist manifesto, Project 2025, has been his guide for the end of democracy, and the establishment of a fascist regime. Today’s plutocracy/oligarchy cannot be sustained in a free society.

This Saturday, October 18, 2025, historic protests are planned for multiple cities across the nation. They will be known as the “No Kings” rally.

Trump is the dullest tool in the shed. He underestimated the fact that real Americans will never submit to his desire to be a cruel and vicious dictator.

Do not place all of the blame on one, obese, old man. His plan to end the country created by our Founding Fathers in 1789 cannot be accomplished without his Nazi political party, or ignorant voters who choose to believe lies he refers to as “alternative facts.” Or maybe they simply share his belief in white supremacy, and support his plan to “Make America White Again.”

Regardless, our nation’s future is in great jeopardy.

Our country is divided and will never become whole in my lifetime. There are no great leaders in Washington today. Truth be told, only once in my life has there been a leader who had the courage and determination to move America forward and closer to becoming a great nation. His name was John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Sadly, he was assassinated by a coward during the first half of my senior year in high school. I never had an opportunity to vote for him. Not until July 1, 1971, was the voting age lowered to 18.

Only one of the other 12 presidents I experienced in my life came close to inspiring me and adding greater feelings of patriotism: Barack Obama. However, he lacked JFK’s courage.

Finally, I was a supporter of Kamala Harris since 2020. Unfortunately, in 2024, Biden waited far too long to remove himself from contention, and Vice-President Harris, who was given minor roles during the Biden Administration, had only 3 1/2 months to convince voters that she would be America’s greatest leader since JFK.

The fact that Republicans were unable to find a better candidate than Trump for three consecutive elections reveals everything about the once Grand Old Party.

Democrats are only slightly better. However, only women on the left side of the aisle have displayed the ability and courage to lead our nation. The truth is, the United States remains a somewhat misogynistic society. America has yet to move forward and join other developed nations in the 21st century.
