Every Morning, I Cringe as I Turn On my Laptop

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

In eight months, if I live that long, I will be an octogenarian. I grew up reading the Sunday newspaper, mostly the comics section. By the time I was in high school, I read the morning paper daily, primarily the sports section. By my junior year, one of my teachers made it a requirement to read the entire front page and more.

In 2025, it is a sad fact that reading a newspaper has become obsolete for most.

I don’t watch television news: none of it is entirely accurate or based on the complete truth. I turn on my computer and open numerous websites, searching for the truth about what happened on the previous day or while I was asleep.

Over the last 10 years, most mainstream media agencies cover Trump more than anything or anyone else. Therefore, there is no “good news.” Most of what I read is revolting and contain attacks on the future of my beloved country.

It is an irrefutable fact that every member of our federal government, all 547 men and women, knew about Putin’s interference in our 2016 election long before election day. In October, just one month prior to election day, a meeting in the Oval Office confirmed the fact that Trump had colluded with Putin. All 12 security agencies came to the same conclusion.

Early in 2016, Erik Prince, the founder of the Blackwater Private Security Agency, and brother of soon-to-be Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, established a secret communications link between the two fascists in the Seychelles Islands.

This story stands alone as the most conclusive piece of evidence that the 2016 election was rigged by the leader of a foreign nation, and Trump’s election should never have been certified. He was our nation’s first illegitimate president to be inaugurated illegally.

My question is twofold. Why did our entire government allow Trump to defile the White House? Secondly, how many members of our government support the overthrow of the nation founded by the courageous men who signed the Constitution in 1789?

I know they were not perfect. I also know that they accepted this fact. Letters written by many of the men we revere today revealed their biggest mistake. They truly believed that their successors serving in the federal government would improve upon what they had begun. They underestimated the inherent evils of mankind. Greed, avarice, and a desire for great power are frequently far more powerful than a desire and responsibility to do the right thing.

Today’s federal government is the most corrupt in the world. I do not believe anything they say, and do not trust or respect the vast majority of our elected and appointed officials. Only a handful of men and women have earned my trust and offer hope for positive change.

The truth is, my 79 years have educated me. I do not trust or respect anyone in power. I trust myself and those I have known for years, but no one else.

The “news” is not simply disturbing; it is frightening. I feel like my country is nothing but a memory.

Change is inevitable. However, our current situation is totally unacceptable. America has moved backwards. All of the progress made over 249 years is being destroyed by Trump and his American Nazi Party who support Project 2025.
