Save America: Demand Term Limits and the Repeal of the Electoral College
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Big mistake. Our Founding Fathers readily admitted that what
they created was not perfect. Their biggest mistake was underestimating the
weaknesses of all mankind. They mistakenly believed that their successors would
be honorable and patriotic men who would improve upon their failures.
Most of their ideas, their dreams, were based on human
rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I will always respect their
intent to make what has become the American dream available to every man and
woman in our nation.
They could not have foreseen how disastrous not placing term
limits on all three branches of our government, and surrendering to the leaders
of smaller states with the creation of the Electoral College has become.
“Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” History
confirms that longevity, when given a position of power, brings out the worst
in every man and woman in our federal government. I offer you one name, one old
man, who failed to accomplish anything of value over the last 40 years in the
Senate.
The truth is a sad fact: Moscow Mitch is responsible for
much of the harm suffered by our nation’s people during his four decades in the
Senate.. His greatest crimes involve a fight against universal healthcare, a
failure to lessen our country’s growing domestic terrorism with the control of
weapons of mass destruction, not allowing a vote to punish Russia for its
interference in our 2016 election, and breaking his own unconstitutional rule
and “stacking” the Supreme Court with right-wing extremists, which led to his
ultimate goal, the repeal of a 49-year-old decision known as Roe v Wade. This
removed the right of all women to make decisions about their own physical and
mental health.
Moscow Mitch would never have become such a huge criminal if
he had only been allowed to serve two terms.
The SCOTUS has become corrupt beyond repair. With lifetime appointments,
the harm six justices have caused our nation is irreparable. At least three of
the justices in 2025, Clarence Thomas Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, were
illegally and immorally confirmed by a corrupt Senate.
The purpose of a democratic election is to guarantee that
every citizen’s vote counts. The Electoral College contradicts this right.
States elect our presidents. This is why we have “red” and “blue” states today.
A perfect example of this huge mistake can be found in the
2000, and 2016 elections. If the popular vote was the only factor in choosing
our presidents, Al Gore would have become our 43rd president in 2000.
The second worst president in history, George W. Bush, would never have “accomplished”
his many failures.
In 2016, Hillary Clinton crushed Trump in the popular vote.
The worst president in history would never have come into power as our 45th
illegitimate president.
Think about how different America would be today.
The fact is, no certain-to-fail Republican would have been
our president from 1993, until 2025. We would have enjoyed 42 years of
prosperity, peace, and positive social change.
We, the people, are the United States of America. It is a
travesty that we do not decide who will lead us over the next four years.
To stand still is tantamount to moving backwards.
