The Primary Reason Why America has Never Been a Great Nation

As an original, white baby boomer, I grew up in an atmosphere of white privilege. I grew up in Los Angeles, and I knew nothing about racism and other forms of prejudice until I was about 12 or 13. I was 16 when I became aware that my Black friends lived in an alternative America. In my junior year of high school, I was allowed to leave a Parochial high school, and attend Venice High, a public institution.

The new friends I made, combined with what I learned in my history classes, exposed hidden facts about America’s dark side where prejudice in all forms made the country I love a less respected nation than I had previously believed, and a nation incapable of becoming the greatest in the world.

America’s history of extreme racism began more than 400 years ago. The first enslaved Africans arrived in English North America in August 1619, at Point Comfort (now Hampton, Virginia) in the colony of Virginia, brought by an English privateer ship, the White Lion, from a Portuguese slave ship. They were 20 men who were taken from their homes in Angola to become the “property” of wealthy, white colonists to use as they pleased.

Trump and his entire Nazi Party are involved in attempts to remove this and hundreds of thousands of other facts about racism and bigotry from our nation’s history. They are forcing the removal books from libraries which tell the truth about America’s 249 years and how the United States has failed to mature. There is no greater example of fascism than censorship of information based on fact.

Prejudice is not a normal condition. Our parents, other family members, those we choose to be our ‘friends,’ right-wing extremist television networks, one entire political party, and the worst of all, social networks, intentionally create bias with the use of fear and unwarranted hatred.

Our leaders have failed to fulfill the promises and dreams of our Founding Fathers. They have done very little to ensure “liberty and justice for all” over two and one-half centuries.

Trump’s political party claims to be composed of “good Christians,” while facts prove they are hypocrites who worship their only gods, wealth and power. They continue to ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ in the New Testament of the Bible while reciting the fairy tales contained in the Old Testament.

Since his illegal and illegitimate inauguration last January, Trump has revealed a level of racism I believed had been suppressed long ago. Let me give you one of many examples of how racist your unscrupulous president truly is.

The National Park Association offers its patrons several “free days” when entry to one of our nation’s greatest treasures does not require a fee. Two of these were Martin Luther King’s birthday, and ‘Juneteenth,’ the day we celebrate the end of slavery. Trump didn’t like their choices, and ordered the removal of those two free days while establishing one for himself; his June 14, 1946 birthday.

Trump was raised in a family which was supportive of all white supremacy movements. His father, Fred, was allegedly seen participating in two Ku Klux Klan rallies.

This is not an excuse. What it does is offer proof that Trump is ignorant. All prejudice is a display of a low level of intelligence.

Throughout my 79 years, I witnessed progress in the fight against racism and bigotry. However, two illegitimate Trump presidencies moved progress backward to our dark past nearly 75 years ago. The American Neo-Nazi movement celebrates daily the fact that their leader is once again defiling the people’s White House.
