No Good Reasons for War: “War is Good for Absolutely Nothin’”

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

Failing to read and understand history always results in ignorance and the inability to move forward, choosing to live in the past.

Every individual must learn and grow every day they remain alive. Not learning this fact produces lives without purpose, without a reason to be remembered.

COUNTRIES ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN PEOPLE

The United States is a very young country. When compared to the nations of Europe, Asia, and Africa, America is still a “toddler.”

If you don’t like that comparison, take a little time to read the history of our nation from its birth in 1776 until today.

The freedoms and rights guaranteed by the Constitution are both the reasons America was once on a path to become the “greatest nation in the world,” and why in 2026, it is the most feared and distrusted nation on the planet.

I blame voters for the demise of the once most-respected country on earth.  Over the last 249 years, mostly old, white men have failed to lead our nation bravely into the future. Their failure to always “do the right thing,” as instructed by Jesus Christ in the New Testament led our country down paths which did not lead to growth, but moved our nation’s people backwards and away from the progressive policies of other developed nations.

AMERICA HAS SURPASSED ALL OTHER NATIONS, PAST AND PRESENT, AS THE MOST WAR-LIKE ON THE PLANET

There is one irrefutable fact. America’s leaders love wars. Even when our nation has not been attacked by another, our federal government eagerly sends our military into war zones in nations we never heard of before the war began.

In less than four months, I will become an octogenarian. Born in 1946, I am an original baby boomer. My existence is the product of two people whose lives crossed in 1945 and the war in Europe came to an end.

My mother was “Rosie the Riveter,” employed in Seattle by Boeing during WWII. My father was discharged in Seattle from the United States Navy on his way home to Mississippi. Somehow, they met and married on July 21, 1945 in a Seattle church. I arrive into the world just over one year later.

From 1946 until today, America has been engaged in five wars an several minor “skirmishes.” Trump’s war rages on in Iran and he is now planning to attack Cuba. Who will be next?

THINK ABOUT THIS FACT

After my birth, periods of time when our nation was not engaged in a war were few. The war in Korea began in 1950 and ended in 1953.

President Lyndon Johnson began to escalate the war in Vietnam the year I graduated from High School in 1964, It ended in disgrace in 1975.

George W. Bush invaded Afghanistan in 2001. He told t. he American people that his purpose was to “kill or capture Osama bin Laden.” That never happened. Our military forces left Afghanistan in August of 2021. Under a blanket of lies, Bush invaded Iraq in March of 2003. It officially ended in December of 2011.

The Trump War against Iran began on February 28, 2026, and continues. When asked about an end to the one-sided conflict, Trump said, “when I feel it in my bones.”

It appears that other wars are imminent.

NOT A SINGLE WAR RESULTED IN A “WINNER”

All wars produce losers, but no winners. WWII was known as “the war against fascism.” However, although our country lost more than 400,000 men and women from 1941-1945, both our government and its military leaders are engaged in fascist activities against their own people in 2026.

Although mass military engagements in Korea have ended, a truce has never been signed. The threat of another war between the North and South remains a probability.

America lost trillions of dollars, but that meant nothing compared to the loss of life.

{ The 20-year Afghan War (2001–2021) resulted in an estimated 176,000 to 241,000 total direct deaths, including over 46,000 Afghan civilians, 66,000–69,000 Afghan military/police, and 84,000 opposition fighters. US military fatalities reached 2,459, with over 1,100 other allied nation troop deaths.}

Our illegal invasion of Iraq created ISIS and other terrorist groups. Peace does not exist in the region today, and hatred and mistrust for America continues to grow.

Although it is truth that Iran’s younger men and women are well educated and reject the current theocracy, the are not organized and are without powerful leaders. Trump’s War was doomed to fail before it began. Minds are not changed by war. However, your illegitimate president and our failed leaders in the Pentagon are always eager for another war.

I don’t know why. Our military leaders have lost every war since WWII.
