Do Politicians Lie?
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
I know the title and question is asinine and I admit that
I’m being sarcastic. The person who has been in front of television cameras the
most over the last 10+ years is Donald Trump. He has chosen to tell lies and
avoid the truth for nearly 80 years. It works for him, and many politicians use
his success as a guideline.
GOVERNOR JOE LOMBARDO AND THE BILLIONAIRES WHO SUPPORT HIM
If you live in Nevada, it is highly probable that you have
seen Joe Lombardo’s costly campaign ads on television. He is up for reelection
in November.
Paid for by his billionaire supporters, they want you to
believe that his efforts over the last four years have improved our state’s
three greatest problems: affordable housing, a failing school system, and
healthcare which is subpar and too expensive for most of our state’s families.
I know the truth. I don’t watch television news. Unlike
Trump, I can read.
I offer you the facts, which offer proof that Lombardo is
just another Trump sycophant.
NEVADA’S HOUSING CRISIS
In 2026, Nevada’s workers on average earn $38,970. 10% of
workers earn $29,810 or less. 10% of workers earn $78,280 or more. Many of our
state’s working-class citizens earn minimum wage or slightly more. Casino
workers rely on gratuities for the largest percentage of their income.
The average cost of a single-family home ranges between
$462,000 and $485,000. The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment is between
$1,545 and $1,632. You do the math.
Lombardo’s plan to solve the problem is to increase
construction. He claimed that the basic law of capitalism, supply and demand,
would lower the price of homes and the cost of rental properties. He lied.
His “plan” allowed the housing industry to increase their
profits. New homes and new apartments are more expensive than those which previously
existed for 10 or more years.
LOMBARDO CLAIMS THAT HIS EFFORTS HAVE IMPROVED OUR STATE’S
EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM
Another lie. Nevada’s schools rank 48th in the
nation in 2026.
Although a growth spurt in our state’s population required
the construction of many new schools, the same old policies remain.
Just north of my home, there is a fairly new middle school. It
has created problems in our area including vandalism. Most significantly, the
scheduled school day is between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. They have two recess periods
of about 15-20 minutes, and lunch for at least one-half hour.
How do the teachers have time to teach?
HEALTHCARE IS A JOKE IN THE SILVER STATE
Lombardo’s ads claim that he has brought more and better
qualified doctors to Northern Nevada. Huge lie.
Nevada’s healthcare ranks 41st in the nation. The
problem is much greater in areas primarily occupied by minorities.
Nevada needs 2,561 additional physicians to meet its needs,
and 5,000 more nurses to reach the national standard.
Two years ago I was admitted to a local hospital here in
Northern Nevada. I was completely bedridden.
During the night shift I waited more than 45 minutes for a
bed pan on several occasions. The excuse? They were short-handed.
How’s Lombardo doing? I can promise you that he will not
receive my vote.
