If Our Government is not Doing Its Job, Do We Need a Federal Government?
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Since the 1980’s, America’s federal government began to
discard and ignore its intent and purpose. Although our Founding Fathers
created a system of “checks and balances” with three “separate but equal branches:”
the executive, legislative, and judicial: politics began to replace purpose
with dysfunction.
If you study history, and read the letters written to their
constituents by those attending the Constitutional Convention between 1787 and 1789,
you will have a greater understanding of the intentions of Washington,
Jefferson, Adams, Monroe, Madison, and the rest.
FREEDOM OF AND FREEDOM FROM RELIGION
Our Founding Fathers considered the First Amendment the most
inclusive and important guarantee of human rights, and the protection of freedom
and equality for all, ever written.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment
of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom
of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble,
and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Notice that the first line of the First Amendment promises
every individual the right to practice the religion of their choice, or none at
all. Put simply, It means that we all have the right to practice any religion
without exception, but also protects us from the dominance of a single
religion.
The last part of this right applies to me, and nearly 100
million other Americans who reject all organized religion.
One of the most important reasons our Founding Fathers left
England was a proclamation from King George III. He declared that the Anglican
Church would be the only true religion of the British Empire.
However, this promise means nothing today.
Beginning in 1981 with the inauguration of Ronald Reagan,
one entire political party began to support one religion above all others:
Christianity. Thanks to the third worst president in history, and those who
call themselves members of the Republican Party today who literally spit on the first guarantee of the
First Amendment every day, this part of the First Amendment is now null and
void.
PREVENTING AN AUTOCRATIC LEADER
Of equal importance was our Founding Fathers’ intention to
prevent our president from becoming a king or any other form of autocratic
leader. They believed that by giving slightly more power to the legislative
branch, men chosen by the people to serve their needs and wishes, this would
never become a possibility.
Less than one month before the 2020 general election, Moscow
Mitch McConnell, with the assistance of Donald Trump, achieved his career-long
goal of stacking the Supreme Court with justices who support right-wing
extremism. He broke his own rule of not appointing any new justices in an
election year.
The highest Court in the land is now biased and corrupted. Trump’s
justices have a 6-3 majority.
In violation of their only purpose, five men and one woman ignored
the intent of the 14th Amendment and allowed a convicted felon and a
man who I watched commit treason on January 6, 2021, to seek the presidency of
the United States. They gave him absolute immunity, placing him above the law
and giving him powers forbidden by our Founding Fathers. The SCOTUS created a
dictator.
LAWS ALLOW CONGRESS TO PREVENT A PRESIDENT FROM BECOMING ALL
POWERFUL
Meanwhile, the House and Senate continue to allow Trump to
do anything he wishes, including multiple violations of the Constitution. The
truth is, no one on the right side of the aisle takes any action without Trump’s
approval, making the legislative branch dysfunctional.
TRUMP IS A FASCIST DICTATOR AND THE ENEMY OF THE AMERICAN
PEOPLE
Trump began his second illegitimate term with violations of
the Constitution. He sent our own military to blue states, attempting to
prevent American citizens from exercising their First Amendment Rights.
Protesting against an immoral and illegal government is one of the most
important rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Trump illegally created the Department of Government
Efficiency, placing his benefactor, Elon Musk in control. DOGE allowed Musk
access to private information, protected by law. Trump’s real purpose was to
take revenge on the men and women charged with investigating his two acts of
treason on January 6 and January 20, when he violated the Espionage Act with
the theft of national secrets.
Trump took complete control of the Department of Justice and
the office of the Attorney General. This voided the intention of why the DOJ
was intended to be a separate entity from the executive branch.
Trump violates the Emoluments Clause every day. He continues
to use his position to increase his personal wealth. So far, that number is
about 1.5 billion dollars.
The orange buffoon pardoned more than 1,600 traitors who
participated in the January 6 insurrection.
He began murdering passengers in speed boats off the coast
of Venezuela. This violated the 5th Amendment. He had no justifiable
cause to murder more than 100 people, simply because he could.
Trump destroyed a huge part of our White House without
permission from the people. He wants to build an unnecessary ballroom. He
claimed that his 989 oligarchs would pay for it at a cost of 200 million
dollars. However, he is now planning to use taxpayer money. The real cost is
estimated to be between one and two billion dollars.
Trump again abused his powers when he unilaterally declared
war on Iran. At least 12 American lives have been lost and more than 60 billion
dollars wasted in what has become another unwinnable war in the Middle East.
The list of Trump’s crimes goes on and on.
I ASK AN HONEST QUESTION WHICH MUST BE ANSWERED NOW
If all three branches of our government are not performing
the jobs for which they were elected or appointed, do we need them? For me, the
answer is a big “Hell No!”
I leave you with a quote by one of America’s great humorists
who was a constant critic of our federal government. He is right and proves my
assertion that a federal government is unnecessary in 2026.
“Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're
paying for.” Will Rogers
