It’s the Economy, Stupid
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
If you ask 90 percent of voters what the most important
issue in any election is, the answer is always, “the economy.” Being an
American is not easy in the 21st century. The solution to any
problem, and at the root of most crimes is money. If you want the “American
dream,” you must have money, and lots of it..
As an original baby boomer, I grew up in a country
struggling to move from a wartime economy to something more normal. As a boy in
the 1950s and 1960s my dreams were not very lofty. Most of my friends had more “things”
than me, but that was never important. Most of the kids in my school had two
parents. I and my brother were raised by a single mother. All she did was work.
She considered raising two sons her entire reason for existing.
I worked lots of jobs, but never became rich. My wife and I
finally achieved the American dream in 1999 when I was 53 and my wife 49: we
purchased our own home.
Statistics prove that most Americans 35 years of age and
younger today will never have enough money to enjoy owning a single family home.
I tell this story because your illegitimate president is a
complete failure when the subject is our nation’s economy.
EVERYTHING TRUMP TOLD YOU OR PROMISED WAS A LIE
Trump is an old, obese man wrapped in an illusion. He claims
to be a successful businessman. In reality, he declared bankruptcy six times,
including the impossible, a casino in Atlantic City. When his failures placed him
in position to declare additional bankruptcies, he was bailed out by Russian
oligarchs and the Saudi Royal Family.
When he was evicted from our White House on January 20,
2021, America was moving towards a second great depression. It’s even worse in
2026.
IS YOUR LIFE BETTER THAN IT WAS FOUR YEARS AGO?
Once again, I’m getting personal. Every time my wife goes to
the supermarket, prices are higher than the week before. Thanks to Trump’s lack
of economic expertise, this is a huge problem for the two of us. We are on a
fixed income, Social Security, and a 60 percent increase in the price of
necessities is disastrous.
Greedflation remains a serious problem for most families. The
cost of a gallon of gas has added more pain. No one thought that a war with
Iran was a good idea, just like no one believed tariffs would help the economy,
that is, no one other than the orange buffoon.
LET’S CUT TO THE CHASE
Beginning with Ronald Reagan, every Republican president
used the same fiscal policy known as “trickle-down economics.” It failed
miserably every time: the rich got richer and low-income class got poorer.
Life is always better for the super-rich when Republicans
are living in the White House, and worse for the working class.
