I Shouldn’t Be Writing About This Shit

Over the last 45 years, nearly one-fifth of America’s
existence, our government, our leaders, have failed to accomplish anything which
positively affects all 340 million Americans. Nothing proves this with greater
significance than failures across the nation last Saturday. Gun violence
continues to escalate across America and this situation could easily be
controlled if our government had the courage to do the right thing.
This was supposed to be the 250th celebration of our nation’s
Declaration of Independence from England. In a normal year, Thomas Jefferson’s
eloquent and heartfelt message would have been read out loud at every gathering
in the country, giving every American a reason to be proud of his or her origin.
Not this year: not in Trump’s America.
WORDS INTENDED TO INSPIRE A NATION
If these few words in the Declaration of Independence don’t
make your hear flutter just a little, you have no idea what our nation was
meant to be.
[We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are
created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable
rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That,
to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their
just powers from the consent of the governed. That, whenever any form of
government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to
alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation
on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall
seem most likely to affect their safety and happiness.]
This one paragraph clearly states the intention of our
Founding Fathers that the people should rule their own country. In a Democratic
Republic, the people elect representatives who are required to address the
needs and wishes of the people they serve. Over the last 45 years, our
government decided to ignore its reason for existence and rule over the people,
failing to serve them.
FOURTH OF JULY 2026
Explosions, fires, hate speeches, and mass shootings defined
the Fourth of July, 2026.
Trump’s “Great American State Fair” was an abject failure, adding
to his history of incompetence. Weather conditions demanded cancellation of the
events scheduled on July 4th. However, Trump refused to surrender another
opportunity to appear before national television cameras.
Across America there were at least eight mass shootings, and
one intentional explosion. Six Americans were murdered and dozens more injured.
These violent actions were spurred by emotions of anger and hatred, the same
negative emotions inspired by Trump in every rant in every speech since 2015.
I have a dream which will never be realized before I take my
last breath. I would love to wake up, boot up my computer, and read stories
which are inspiring. I pray that someday no one will ever read about a mass
shooting intended to kill as many innocent people as possible. However, with
the number of mass shootings exceeding the number of days on a calendar since
2017, I will never live long enough for that dream to come true.
Our government has lost its will to accomplish anything
which would positively affect all 340 million Americans.
America will not survive without a complete “do over.”
