Lindsey Graham: an American Tragedy, but not What You Think

There was a time when I held some respect for the late Senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham. Some of you might remember his close friendship with one of the greatest Republican senators in history, John McCain. They were inseparable, and frequently spoke the truth to the American people when no one else in their party would dare to rebuke the orange buffoon.

However, after Senator McCain’s death on August 25, 2018, something happened to Graham’s mind. He turned from hero to traitor in less than a week.

“This is not about who we nominate anymore as Republicans as much as it’s who we are. This is a fight for the heart and soul of the Republican Party,” Graham said. “What is conservatism? If it’s Donald Trump carrying the conservative banner I think not only do we lose the election, but we’ll be unable in the future to grow the conservative cause.”

 “As much as I disagree with Ted Cruz, if it came down to Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, I would be firmly in Ted’s camp because I think he really is a conservative,” he said.

“Trump has no idea what the world is actually like and is not qualified to be Commander in Chief,” Graham wrote in August of that year.

One month later, he added: “Donald Trump gets his foreign policy from watching television – the Cartoon Network.”

“If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.......and we will deserve it.”

No one was more surprised than I was when Lindsey Graham joined every other man and woman claiming to be a Republican and stuck his nose up Trump’s butt crack.

He went from Trump critic to one his most vocal supporters. Lindsey Graham was a perfect example of how our nation’s federal government eagerly moved from a democratically supportive body to a fascist leaning group of puppets who obey Trump’s every demand. The federal government of the United States is the most corrupt and incompetent on the planet.

Graham, Ted Cruz, Moscow Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, Chuck Grassley, and dozens of other men and women who call themselves Republicans discarded their loyalty to the American people and offered their fealty to Putin’s boy toy. As long as the Trump Party remains the majority in all three branches of our government, the future of our nation is in great jeopardy. Vladimir Putin is in control of our illegitimate president and therefore the government of the United States of America.

GRAHAM WAS JUST A PART OF THE RIGHT-WING’S EFFORTS TO TAKE POWER AND KEEP IT FOREVER

Over my 80 years, I watched huge changes within the once Grand Old Party. In 1981, after Reagan’s inauguration, Republicans, by their actions and words, exposed its growing support for special interests. Reagan and his “new Republicans” began their wars on the working class, women, minorities, the LGBTQ community, while consolidating their support for the Christian religion in violation of the First Amendment.

Today, America is ruled by a plutocracy/oligarchy, and Trump has become its Fuhrer.

President Obama fought for “change,” but it wasn’t enough. Our government needs a major “do over.”

The Real Victims in the Trump Saga

He is playing the role of a victim. I guess part of Trump’s decline in mental acuity is a severe loss of memory.
