Ways Your Government has Failed You for the Last 50 Years
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
Caring for returning physically and mentally injured
military and their families: Universal healthcare: complete equality for women:
ending racism and bigotry in America: affordable higher education: end
escalating gun violence: fair taxation: reforming our corrupt and incompetent
government: placing the American people in priority over special interests.
These are the major issues which have faced America for more
than 50 years, and nothing has changed, with the exception that some of these
issues, including income inequality, have become bigger problems over the last
five decades.
THE THIRD WORST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY
It is no secret to anyone who chooses to be an informed
American: the government of the United States of America has become the most
corrupt and incompetent on the planet. Our Founding Father’s intention was to
have a government which would represent the needs and wishes of the people.
However, today, they work for themselves and rule over us,
not for us. None of the above issues have been on their “to do” list for at
least five decades. This is why America has never been a “great country,” and
why the words “all men are created equal,” and “liberty and justice for all”
mean nothing in the 21st century.
Reagan began the end of our system of a “democratic
republic.” All Republicans were forced to take an oath, promising to support
Reagan’s policies, regardless of how seriously they opposed American values and
the Bill of Rights. It was Reagan who allowed the creation of the Christian
Religious Right. His party placed the wishes of Evangelical leaders ahead of the
needs of the majority of our nation’s people. The First Amendment is being
attacked from the right every day.
FIVE LOSSES SINCE 1945
Born in July of 1946, I am an original “Baby Boomer.” My
father was in the USN during WWII. My mother worked for Boeing in Seattle until
the end of the war.
During my lifetime, our government has placed our nation and
our soldiers in five wars. The Pentagon and our leaders in Washington have lost
all five.
Trump’s war against Iran rages on, but not a single goal has
been achieved. No one on Capitol Hill appears to understand the futility of
waging wars in the Middle East. He has ignored the needs of the people for the
last 11 years.
“My war” was fought in South Vietnam. This was a disaster
that never should have happened. Nearly 60,000 men and women lost their lives
fighting for nothing. When Walter Cronkite reported about the futility of our
nation’s efforts in 1968, as the “Tet Offensive” became a bloody failure, Lyndon
Johnson cancelled his bid for reelection.
Our government’s focus is not focused on the quality of life
for our nation’s people, and hasn’ been for decades.
AMERICA’S GOVERNMENT IS TOO BUSY PLAYING POLITICS TO PERFORM
THE JOBS FOR WHICH THEY WERE ELECTED
If the government we elect and pay to serve our needs and
wishes fails, what can we do? The only weapon we have is our vote, and we can make
choices which represent our resolve.
We can reject all incumbents. History proves that the longer
our elected officials remain in office, the less they do.
We can elect one party over the other. This is an easy
choice. The men and women on the right side of the aisle have ignored the
people of our country for too many years. They are owned by special interests
and obey their demands without question.
Professional politicians are interested in two things and
two things only: increasing their personal wealth, and maintaining power over
340 million people.
The truth is, democracy has not existed in America for many
years. Our government has created an illusion. They pretend to care about our
country, but the truth is, they are working for themselves.
The government of the United States survives through lies
and misdirection.
Trump is a tool. It appears that he is in control. However,
his party is using flattery and pretending to praise him constantly. These
tactics control Trump’s every action: his words mean nothing. Trump is not
smart enough to speak in clear and meaningful sentences, and is incapable of
making intelligent decisions. Add escalating dementia to the scene, and what
you see is a puppet, not a man.
No one in our government can be trusted. Once elected, they
all place their own agenda ahead of the people who elected them.
Every human has a brain and is capable of intelligent and
free thought. Use your personal strength and save America for your children and
grandchildren. Vote wisely and understand how important your vote is in every
election.
Save the dream.
