How “Republican” Became a Synonym for “Liar”
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
If you claim to be a Republican, and your lips are moving, you
are lying. But, I’m being redundant.
I turned 21 in 1967. The first election in which I could participate
was in 1968. Tough year.
I have less than a handful of “heroes.” One of them was
murdered in April of 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, and the brother of another,
John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, was murdered in Los Angeles in June. He would
have received my first vote.
The winner of the 1968 election was Richard M. Nixon, He
resigned in 1974, replaced by V.P. Gerald Ford. Democrat and Governor of
Georgia, Jimmy Carter, became America’s 39th President. In 1980, a
former actor and Governor of California, Ronald Reagan won the election,
running as a Republican.
Nixon was the last, true Republican. He was also an
excellent president with many accomplishments on the record. However, he was also
a criminal.
Ford was a “seat filler,” who will be only be remembered as
the man who pardoned Nixon.
Carter was a great man, but not such a great president.
Reagan became our nation’s third worst president and began
the demise of the once Grand Old Party.
THE DEATH OF THE PARTY OF LINCOLN BEGAN ON JANUARY 20, 1981
Reagan fooled me. I was living in California in 1980. Reagan
proved that he was a better actor than I previously believed.
He was a good Governor when the Golden State needed him most.
I, like millions of other Americans, believed his campaign promises/lies in 1980.
Making him my choice proved to be a big mistake.
During his first year, of his first term, Reagan began the
right-wing’s wars on the working class, minorities, women, and anyone who
practiced a religion other than Christianity. They continue to escalate today.
His rules destroyed the reputation and competency of the
Grand Old Party forever. Reagan’s first demand was absolute loyalty. His
policies were not to be questioned or challenged under any circumstances. It
was Reagan who began the current enmity between America’s two major political
parties. The democratic policies of honest deliberation and compromise no
longer exist.
Reagan was a better actor than president. His lies began what
is now the norm among those who call themselves “Republicans.”
A LIFE COMPOSED OF LIES AND CRIME, TRUMP REMOVED ALL
CREDIBILITY, INTEGRITY, AND RESPECT FROM THE GOP
“The real Donald Trump” remains consistent. A failure among
New York’s business community, he pretended to be a real estate entrepreneur
and a billionaire, but it was all an illusion.
Like Reagan, he made fools of millions of voters in 2016 and
2024. Trump made the statement, “if his lips are moving, he’s lying,” a
reality.
From June of 2015 until today, every claim, promise, and
attack on his adversaries was and is a lie. His deferments preventing him from
serving in Vietnam were lies. His diploma from Wharton is a lie. And his
unilateral decision to wage a war against Iran, a Muslim nation, was based on
lies. There is not a single iota of evidence that the war was justified by Iran’s
provocation.
THE DARK YEARS, 2017-2021
Trump’s Constitutional violations between 2017 and 2021 were
numerous and the most egregious in history From the Emoluments Clause, which
allowed him to increase his personal wealth by 1.7 billion dollars, his
attempts to bribe the leader of Ukraine, committing treason on January 6, 2021,
and violating the Espionage Act on January 20, 2021, he should be living the
remainder of his useless life in a federal prison today. Another “only in
America.” Does this make you ‘proud?’
If you believe anything the orange buffoon says, or the
remarks from his cult designed to protect their Fuhrer, you are a bigger fool
than I was in 1980.
