First Good News Since November 5, 2024
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
If you read my rants regularly, you might think that my
articles are most negative and I enjoy writing them. Because I write the truth,
I admit that my emotions border on the darker side of life. You would be
correct. Politics is the most disgusting profession on earth, and I have no
faith in what happens in our nation’s capital. I had begun to hate reading the
news every morning: There was not a single inspiring story on any site.
However, on Tuesday night, I was reborn.
A NEW DAY, HOPE RETURNS, AND I ONCEE AGAIN BELIEVE THAT AMERICA
MAY SOMEDAY BECOME THE GREATEST NATION IN THE WORLD
I am an “old fart.” Like many other octogenarians, I have an
occasion when I fear that the generations I preceded have little interest in
what happens to themselves in the near future, and their children, and
grandchildren after they lose their earthly bonds.
However, today I know that our country’s future is in good
hands.
MOST OF WHAT IS MISSING IN AMERICA TODAY IS A GOOD THING
My daughter will be 50 years old next spring. I know who she
is and am extremely proud of what she has accomplished and how she has raised
her daughters.
Her generation is more involved in my America than I could
ever have dreamed. She has the misfortune of living in the strangest and most
confusing state in the country. Florida’s residents benefit from their environment.
Their climate attracts people from our nation and all over the world. From what
I have learned, many of its permanent residents fail to appreciate the fact
that they benefit from living in a nation which continues to offer unlimited
opportunities to anyone who wants them.
I would have thought that Florida’s residents would be
progressive, looking to the future, most of them live in the past.
What I can tell you about Florida and many other states of
which I have only limited knowledge?
Younger Americans, in general, harbor fewer prejudices than
my generation. Racism, bigotry, sexism, homophobia, religious intolerance, and
elitism are far less prevalent.
Tuesday’s midterm elections confirm my assumptions. The ages
of most candidates are younger than my daughter. Diversity can describe the
variety of lifestyles enjoyed by these courageous men and women, and, once
again, women revealed their growing interest in becoming involved in our nation’s
future. Ignored by men for more than 200 years, they will now be heard and
respected for who they are.
MY FUTURE IS MUCH BRIGHTER
I take great pleasure in looking forward to writing stories
about the accomplishments of our new Senators, Representatives, Governors, and
others who will face enormous challenges created by Trump and his failed party
over the last ten yours.
Today, I am a believer. I trust these recent heroes.
My greatest hope is that what it has meant to be a “politician”
disappears, and this frequently hated group of men and women will be removed
from Washington, and a new, forward thinking grougp of men and women will unite
us and lead us bravely into the 21st century.
Dreams must never die.
