Cory Booker Rips both Political Parties, Stands up for America

Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart

“I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat.”

The previous quote was offered by humorist, Will Rogers. It was true in his day and true today. Since the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration, men and women calling themselves “Democrats” have lost their courage to do the right thing every time, regardless of its popularity with some voters, and no longer place the people ahead of personal ambitions.

Today’s “Republicans” sold their souls to fascist Donald Trump, knowing that their base is in steep decline. Democrats can no longer be trusted to be courageous and fight for what is right for all Americans. They are afraid to attack Trump and his Nazi Party with the truth, fearing retaliation from Trump and his like-minded supporters.

The absolute truth is neither of our nation’s two major political parties represent their predecessors. Neither party has been perfect; not even close. However, throughout most of my life America has survived and grown through honest deliberation and eventual compromise. The Democratic Republic created by our Founding Fathers no longer exists. Our country is ruled by two parties who are engaged in an unwinnable war with each other. Both sides of the aisle lie, hide facts from the American people, and refuse to place the needs and wishes of the majority in priority number one, which is their only reason for existing. Corruption and dysfunction are the words which best describe our federal government today.

Since Trump’s second illegitimate inauguration, only three Democrats have displayed both patriotism and their support for the Constitutional rights of All Americans: Senator Bernie Sanders, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes, and Senator Cory Booker.

Booker’s disgust for his party’s failure was revealed on the floor of the Senate.  A bipartisan bill which would support additional funding for law enforcement programs was about to be passed. Senator Booker loudly spoke his anger and opposition to multiple bills in which Democrats surrendered to Trump and his Nazi Party.

“This is the problem with Democrats in America right now,” Booker bellowed. “Is we’re willing to be complicit with Donald Trump!”

Catherine Cortez Masto, a Senator from my state of Nevada, has voted with Republicans on nearly every occasion. For my wife and I, she is a disappointment. We are very involved and are aware that many bills supported by Trump and his traitorous party would harm Blue and Purple States.

“We can do both,” she said afterward. “Support our communities, keep them safe, and take on Donald Trump and his bad policies.” There is no hope and no excuse for those in Washington who choose ignorance over reality.

When my wife communicated with Senator Mato a couple of days ago regarding the three current concentration camps in Florida, the Senator claimed that there was only one: “Alligator Alcatraz.”

As Senator Booker was leaving the floor of the Senate, he added an additional remark.

“A lot of us in this caucus want to f—— fight,” Booker said with an expletive as he left the Senate floor after the exchange.

He also responded to Masto’s statement.

“Why would we do something today that’s playing into the president’s politics and is going to hurt the officers in states like mine?” Booker asked.

In 1955, John F. Kennedy published a book titled “Profiles in Courage.” It was a collection of short profiles of several courageous and respected members of the United States Senate.

He would have a difficult time finding more than a few Senators with the courage to act in accordance with the needs of the American people today.
