For America, There is no Greater Disappointment Than the Fact that Trump Will Oversee our Nation’s 250th Anniversary
American still has a lot to learn. After 249 years of
existence, the United States remains in a semi-permanent state of adolescence. The
pattern is disappointing. When our country has a great leader in the White
House, we begin to move forward. When he is replaced, his successor often moves
America backwards. In my 79 years, it often seems as though our nation constantly
takes one step forward, then two steps back.
On July 4, 2026, America will celebrate 250 years as a
nation.
Trump and his 902 billionaires/oligarchs will tell you lies,
claiming that because of our technological and medical advancements, we have moved
forward. However, most of our nation’s 340 million citizens, at least those who
are informed, will tell you that for most of those 250 years, we have been
standing still while the rest of developed nations have been moving forward. The
people of the United States have the lowest quality of life among all of those
15 nations.
I know exactly what Trump has in mind for his “grand
celebration.” I also know what it will not be, a celebration of what America,
my America, stands for. It will be an abomination, a presentation extolling the
virtues of all whites since 1776. There will be no mention of slavery, the
LGBTQ community, or women’s contributions to our nation’s growth. It will be a display
of how Trump sees our nation’s future. It most definitely will not be mine.
Trump is exactly three weeks my senior. I chose to grow and
learn. I was present as our nation was recovering from WWII. I witnessed the
good and the bad, always believing that our leaders would learn more from their
mistakes than their successes. Trump saw only one thing, how he could use
people for personal gain. He is the ‘poster boy’ for all malignant narcissists.
Some things have never changed. Racism and bigotry are or
greatest problems. The progress made over the last 249 years is minimal at
best.
Being an American means treating our fellow Americans in the
same manner we would like to be treated: respected for who we are, for our
differences, and the things which make us the same. All people deserve to be
treated as equals. There can be no class system in America. For all true
Americans there is no life without freedom, without free thought and free
expression. There is no America when our leader believes that he is above the
majority. In reality, he is nothing more than a public servant.
As long as I can remember, people talked about change. In
2025, there is a great need for absolute change, restructuring and rebuilding
the foundation of our government. America must be returned to 1789 and look
closely at the principles and ideals possessed by the courageous men who
created the United States of America.
All power must be returned to the people. The Electoral
College must be repealed. Term limits must be established for all three
branches immediately, and retroactively. Our vote, every vote must count. We,
the people, are the country and we must be the only ones to decide who will
have the privilege of serving in Washington.
We must also look at past mistakes. Our Founding Fathers had
complete faith that their successors would improve upon their efforts, making
America a truly great country.
However, letters written by several of the men who signed
the Constitution openly admitted both their failures and their hopes. America
meant everything to them. I cannot say the same about our elected and appointed
officials in Washington today.
Finally, a personal observation. As long as Trump is
pretending to be your president, I will never find it inside me to celebrate
anything about my country. Today’s America belongs to Trump, not to true patriots.
Trump’s America is an abomination. My America is positiv, and progressive: the
opposite of the orange buffoon destroying my country today.
