Remember DOGE? Go Ahead and Laugh; I’m Laughing With You
Op-ed by TheWiseOldFart
A few days after his minimalist inauguration, Trump
announced the creation of DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency. In charge
of DOGE was Elon Musk. Musk is a billionaire without a single qualification to
be included in anyone’s presidential administration. However, he donated
hundreds of millions of dollars to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump announced the purpose of his new agency with a lie. No
surprise there. The orange buffoon claimed this new agency would eliminate 2
trillion dollars in government waste, and therefore reduce the national debt by
an identical amount.
As expected it failed. Its only “accomplishment” was the
firing of thousands of qualified and necessary employees who actually worked
within our federal government.
ANOTHER FAILURE BY AMERICA’S BIGGEST LOSER
After DOGE was dismantled, with all the firings and falsely
claimed changes in our nation’s fiscal policies, about two billion dollars in
spending was achieved.
Between 2017 and 2021, Trump and his incompetent
administration added about four trillion dollars to the national debt.
When he began his second term in January of 2025, the deficit
was 36.2 trillion dollars. On Thursday, it was announced that the national debt
has reached 40 trillion dollars. Why, and how?
THE MOST WASTEFUL SPENDING BY A PRESIDENT IN HISTORY
Trump clearly knows nothing about economics. He failed to
accomplish his three most important campaign promises: to end inflation on day
one: to end the invasion of Ukraine on day one: and he would never allow
America to be engaged in another war on foreign land. Each of these false
promises had financial implications.
His personal spending of more than 10 million dollars each
month is directly responsible for a part of the increase in the deficit. His
destruction of the East Wing of the White House, and plans to build an
unnecessary and unwanted ballroom and an arch, will waste billions of dollars
of taxpayer money.
Greedflation combined with an ill-advised policy of
trickle-down economics, tariffs, not only added hardships to the lives of the
working class and to the national treasury.
Trump unilaterally violated the Constitution and declared
war on the sovereign nation of Iran. His reasons for these attacks were unproven
and some were brazen falsehoods. Currently, Trump’s war has cost taxpayers more
than 75 billion dollars.
Trump added more tax cuts for the super-rich and corporations.
Today, the maximum tax rate in America is 37 percent. The corporate tax rate is
21 percent. These are the lowest tax rates in the world of developed nations.
But there’s more.
[The United States tax regulations comprise 2,600 to 6,800
pages long, depending on how it is printed and formatted. However, the popular
claim of 70,000+ pages include outside rules, agency explanations, and court
cases.]
In terms we can all understand, I offer you the truth.
Of the more than 70,000 pages offering rules and regulations
for accountants to file tax returns for their clients, only the first few pages
list requirements defining who must pay taxes and definitions of taxable
income. The remainder of all 70,000+ pages contain exemptions, most of which
are only available to the wealthy.
In 2018, after Trump’s first group of tax cuts for the
wealthy, two of the largest corporations in the world, Amazon and Walmart, paid
zero dollars in taxes. Our nation’s billionaires and about one-half of our 20
million millionaires, paid a lower percentage of tax than middle-class workers.
Does this help you understand why our nation is 40 trillion dollars in debt,
and why ours is the only nation without universal healthcare and other basic
human rights?
